This is where I first started talking to Spirit.
With uncertainty and imposter syndrome I whispered, “Heeeeey Spirit. How’s it going?”
Although I did not grow up with “religion”, we said Grace when assembling for Christmas, Easter, Thanksgiving and other “celebrations”. I always attributed this to the type of ceremony my Grammie grew up with; it made her happy. She was the only grandparent I ever had the honour of meeting in person.
I spent my childhood in nature; I lived right on Desert Lake in Ontario - about 30 minutes outside of Sydenham and an hour from Kingston:
*Spring: Cold plunges right after the ice started to melt.
*Summer: Canoeing, exploring, cliff jumping, learning to waterski, ripping around in a yellow speedboat.
*Winter: Ice fishing, snowmobiling, staying at a “city house” because the “driveway” to our house was a mile long and treacherous to get up and down.
*Fall: Observed leaves change colour; I always felt this time was of “new beginnings”.
As a teenager, I begrudgingly went on hikes in the forest with my immediate family, and close family friends. We even canoed the Bowron Lakes together right before I went away to University. I referred to some of the other parents as “Godparents” without really knowing what that meant.
A few years ago, I asked a friend about her Faith. (I have always been fascinated by these people - how could they surrender so completely to something they couldn’t “see”?) She pointed to all of the beauty around us, and was so matter of fact: “God is the trees. God is the ocean. God is the sun. God is this highway.” I was like, “cool” but I didn’t actually get it.
These memories/experiences were the reminders I needed that “God” is interchangeable with: Source Creator Universe Spirit. (It’s just a word!)
Imagine my surprise when Spirit (Spirit Guides, Guardian and Arch Angels - mine and other peoples’!!) started to answer back!! Everything I thought I knew was flipped upside down.
